Through the Ages
This project was Groovy, Rad, and Lit all at the same time! For a graduate of a, well ehhh certain age, Generation Gaps was the perfect topic for my Senior Project. I wanted to tackle the issue of stereotypes that accompany each generation, but I wanted to do it in a fun, light-hearted way. It gave me a chance to show my silly sense of humor, but also show off my drawing skills, as I chose to fully illustrate the entire project! I started by creating characters to represent each generation: Buford Boomer, Jenny Eckes, and Jay Pegg. From there I organized a wealth of crazy statistics and some super silly generalizations about each age group into a poster series, booklet, infographic and toy. The infographic poster accompanied some cute cassette tape stickers which boasted fun facts on the back, and along with the postcards, were a freebie takeaway for guests of the show. Certainly my favorite piece in the project was my toy. I created a collectible magnet set for each character complete with outfits, accessories, and anything I could think of that would cause a major eye-roll or a good chuckle from each generation! I very much enjoyed watching the guests interact with the interchangeable magnets- people sure get a kick out of giving an old dude a boombox, a hair bow, a pair of saggy skinny jeans and a trophy that reads "You Showed Up."
